Island of Paros

For those seeking a laid-back holiday in the Cyclades, Paros is a popular choice. With its deep blue sea, hidden beaches, and charming towns, the island has earned a reputation as one of the friendliest destinations in the Cyclades.

Visitors are captivated by the island’s cubist villages, long beaches and bays,

roaming goats, and ancient monasteries—a unique blend of

hospitality, tranquil serenity, and untamed beauty.

Here on Paros, the Swiss-German Klar family has created their own private hideaway. During a summer holiday, they fell in love with the island and made it

their favorite place.

In 2020, Ines and Jörg Klar acquired this modern property on the eastern side of the island. The shell of the building was already in place, but completing the villa proved to be an adventure, especially during the pandemic. However, after just one year of construction, the family was able to move into their summer retreat.

The villa is nestled in the heart of an agricultural idyll, offering an open, clear view of Paros’ wild nature. The air is filled with the scents of oregano, sage, and thyme. The expansive terraces invite you to spend your days in complete relaxation. The villa, which consists of two houses and a separate studio, features a modern and minimalist style.

The minimalist design creates a sense of clarity and calms the senses. The property is surrounded by a yoga deck, a basketball court, and gardens. The Klars cultivate fig, apricot, and olive trees, along with vines and medicinal plants. "I love spending the whole day here," says Ines.

If you do decide to explore the island, there are plenty of options. The most beautiful beaches are just a few minutes’ drive away, including Ambelas and Molos Beach. Paros is surrounded by a variety of beaches—some lively, others remote, and many with taverns or water sports activities. Ines particularly enjoys the small, unnamed beaches between Kolymbithres, with its wind-shaped rocks. Her children, on the other hand, prefer the trendy Monastiri Beach, with its beach bar, lounge, and restaurant. For those who prefer to stay on the property, they can cool off in the pool—Jörg’s passion—a natural swimming pool. It’s an artificially created ecosystem with purely biological water treatment. Various pools filled with plants, water lilies, and frogs help clean the water. Sustainability is important to the Klars: "We generate all the electricity for the house using our solar panels and use it to power the heat pumps, which can cool the rooms in summer and heat them in winter." This makes Villa Klar part of the sustainable tourism and conscious travel movement.

In the evening, the lively Naoussa tempts you to stroll and the many restaurants, from simple to upscale, invite you to enjoy first-class Mediterranean cuisine.

This is what an evening might look like:

a drink at Santé followed by dinner at Siparos - a favorite restaurant of the Klars -  in the north of the island. Here you can enjoy Greek cuisine with a modern, fresh twist.

But what they enjoy most is sitting on their terrace with a glass of wine, gazing out over the countryside, accompanied by the sounds of nature and the scent of the Mediterranean.

Ines and Jörg live with their three children and their dog Ivy,

dividing their time between Munich and Zurich when they’re not relaxing on Paros.

Jörg is a financial advisor, and Ines is a body talker.
