Egypt - Nile
A Journey on the Nile, wrapped in Serenity through the heart of Egypt
© Max von Eiken
There are few places left in this world where one can feel history as palpably as on this eternal river. Its slow pulse seems to carry with it the secrets of a past where ancient pharaohs reigned and whispers of intrigue drift in the desert breeze. To sail upon its waters defies the usual bustle of modern travel. No vessel embodies this spirit quite like a Dahabiya, a traditional sailing boat. Nour El Nil introduced this art of cruising and operates a fleet of 7 Dahabiyas offering a unique 5 days experience. Their latest one named ‚Poppee‘ is ready to sail since Mid-november 2024.
From Luxor to Aswan
Life aboard is as serene as barefoot luxury can be. The world on shore moves in slow motion:
the lush green banks, the smell of earth mingling with the scent of tea while your meals are
freshly prepared with local ingredients.

As evening falls, the sky transforms into a canvas of shimmering stars
offering a breathtaking view from the deck.
Each dawn, the boat awakens in a new location beneath the imposing columns of an ancient temple or alongside a quiet village where the rhythm of life has scarcely changed in centuries. The excursions ashore are as enchanting as the river itself. El Kab, the former capital of Upper Egypt, impresses with the Temple of Nekhbet and ornate tombs. In Edfu, you will visit the magnificent Temple of Horus before sailing to an idyllic island. The impressive Sobek Temple awaits you in Kom Ombo before you sail on to Aswan.
The Aswan Cataracts
The difficult-to-pass shallow length rapids of the Nile - known as the Cataracts - once formed a natural boundary between various kingdoms and regions. The only one still in Egypt today called the
First Cataract is located in Aswan.
After these stunning impressions the trip is best ended with a drink in the legendary luxury hotel Old Cataract in Aswan - before the journey continues.
A stay in Cairo is an unforgettable experience, as the New Egyptian Museum has now finally opened. It is therefore worth using the beginning or end of a Nile cruise to plan enough time for a trip to the capital to explore both the majestic pyramids and the museum. To round off the trip, we recommend lunch at Khufu's restaurant, which offers a breathtaking view of the pyramids - an unforgettable highlight.
A trip to the Nile is an invitation to a more authentic way of immersing yourself in the past
as timeless as the Nile itself.
