Denise Snieguolé Wachter's cookbook "Vilnius" convinced the jury of the German Cookbook Prize 2024 and secured the coveted title in the "Newcomer" category.
“Vilnius” is Wachter’s declaration of love for her mother’s homeland and a tribute to the multifaceted history of Lithuania. With authentic recipes, photos and personal stories, the author takes you into a world full of flavors and traditions. The young food journalist visits local markets and meets chefs from Vilnius’ hip gastronomy scene, who tell her their favorite recipes. The cookbook offers typical Baltic dishes such as the fried garlic bread “Kepta duona” with Lithuanian aioli, the pink soup “Šaltibaršciai” and the Napoleon cake. “Vilnius” is a culinary inspiration for a trip to Lithuania.
