Anyone who has set foot in Lech understands the allure of this high-alpine village. At

1,444 meters above sea level, it captivates visitors with snow-sure slopes, warm

hospitality, and an authentic charm that is both timeless and inviting. But Lech is more

than just a skier’s paradise,it is where luxury and tradition exist in perfect harmony.

A shining example of this symbiosis is Hotel Schmelzhof, a retreat for those seeking more

than just a place to stay.

The moment you step into the Schmelzhof, you’re embraced by a warm sense of comfort and belonging. The atmosphere strikes a perfect balance between professional hospitality and heartfelt familiarity—a feeling that comes, above all, from the Strolz family. As the gracious hosts, Gitti and Robert Strolz are at the heart of it all, anticipating their guests’ every need with effortless charm and care.

Upon arrival, the Blaue Bar is the first stop, the heart of the Schmelzhof. Sink into one of the plush velvet sofas and take a deep breath. The scent of freshly baked biscuits lingers in the air, inviting indulgence. As you glance around, the attention to detail becomes apparent, cozy elegance infused with a Parisian touch. Gitti, a devoted admirer of the French capital, never returns from her annual visits empty-handed. Voilà! A cocktail in hand completes the moment, expertly mixed by her son, Arthur. His creations, whether shaken or stirred, are reminiscent of the legendary Harry’s Bar. Only the panoramic view of the snow-covered Arlberg valley reminds you that you are in Lech

A three-minute walk, and you’re in the heart of the village. Lech. This is where the alpine

adventure begins. The Arlberg ski region has it all, 305 kilometers of perfectly groomed slopes for both leisure skiers and thrill-seekers, plus 200 kilometers of deep-snow runs for those craving

untouched powder. For those who prefer a slower pace, more than 40 kilometers of winter hiking trails wind through serene, snow-blanketed forests and open meadows. Silence. Nature. Magic.

Cross-country skiers will also find their paradise. 27 kilometers of glistening trails weaving

through the stunning landscape.

After an active day of sports, you can look forward to relaxing at the hotel.

With 40 thoughtfully designed rooms, the Schmelzhof underwent a loving renovation last

year. A signature style runs through every space, a collaboration between Gitti and her

daughter, Franziska, who together curated the interiors. Vibrant wallpapers. Plush, inviting

beds. A seamless blend of modern design and alpine warmth.

After an exhilarating day on the slopes, this is the perfect sanctuary to unwind. Slip into a

luxurious bathrobe and retreat to the spa in the basement, where relaxation takes center

stage. For those seeking extra indulgence, tailored treatments are available.

One of the true highlights of the Schmelzhof? The cuisine. The Strolz family takes pride in treating guests to culinary delights of the highest standard. It all begins with a lavish breakfast, where every wish is fulfilled. And from early morning, the ambiance is set, Gitti loves to play Good Morning Life by Frank Sinatra, ensuring the day starts on a joyful note. During the pandemic, when the bar had to close in the evenings, she simply flipped the script, mornings became the new celebration. This effortless spontaneity and infectious joie de vivre are exactly what guests cherish about her. Another cherished tradition? The weekly torchlight walk. Robert invites guests on an enchanting evening stroll through the winter night, accompanied by mulled wine and mini liver-cheese buns, culminating in a cozy gathering on the terrace. But be mindful, save room for dinner! In the evening, Jakob takes the helm in the kitchen, delighting guests with sophisticated interpretations of Austrian cuisine.

For those eager to explore Lech’s vibrant culinary scene, there’s much to discover.

Our Mavi tip: Rote Wand. Here, Julian Stieger represents the new wave of Austrian gastronomy. Since 2022, this two-star chef has crafted an exceptional dining experience at the Rote Wand Chef’s Table. His expertise spans the globe, having worked in some of the world’s finest kitchens including Geranium in Copenhagen, a three-Michelin-starred establishment consistently ranked among the best restaurants worldwide. His menu? A tribute to the region, elevated yet unpretentious. The journey begins with an aperitif in the historic schoolhouse, before guests settle in at the counter, where they witness Stieger and his team bring their culinary artistry to life. Think black pudding bread with truffles or pike with mustard and spruce, a contemporary take on Alpine tradition.

The return journey, a 40-minute walk along the Lech River, leads past charming boutiques

and intimate fondue huts, where the scent of melting cheese lingers in the crisp night air.

Awaiting you at the Schmelzhof? A crackling fire in the fireplace lounge. The perfect way

to end the evening? A visit to the Blaue Bar, where Arthur will mix you the ideal nightcap.

In the end, the feeling remains:

Lech is a winter paradise, and the Schmelzhof is more than just a hotel.

It is a home away from home, - a place to truly belong.
